Yin

This class is taught by:

Jo Parsons

Jo teaches yoga because she herself has healed so much of her own life with yoga, and she wants to teach others that they can do the same. A lifelong battle with depression, anxiety, and weight issues led Jo to try yoga 14 years ago, and her life was completely changed forever! She started teaching yoga full time after completing her Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training with Baron Baptiste at the Baptiste Power Yoga Institute in 2006. She also completed an extensive course on giving hands-on adjustments called Teacher Assistant Program (T.A.P.) at Shakti Vinyasa Yoga with Master Baptiste Teacher Lisa Black. Her newest love is Yin Yoga and she completed her Yin Yoga certification with Bernie Clark November 2015. Slowing down and “BE-ing” is what Jo loves about yin yoga (a slower, deeper, gentler style of yoga that targets and strengthens the connective tissues of the body – mainly the joints). Yin yoga helped Jo heal her own body that she felt was wearing down from so many years of living a very active life. The two styles of yoga perfectly complement each other to create more balance not just in body, but in our souls too. Jo's ability to connect with her students and understand their suffering, and their triumphs (emotional, physical, and spiritual) is as unique as she is. Her classes are fun, inspirational, light-hearted yet challenging, and filled with love, music, and soul!

Jeni Tracy

I found yoga to be the first exercise I look forward to doing and the only one I miss when I can't practice. I have found my passion and its hot YOGA. I left my classes exhausted, but smiling. I kept coming back to experience that feeling of accomplishment. Now that feeling of accomplishment has become fuel in my life.
I practice yoga because it continues to teach me about myself, how to process my thoughts, determination, patience, and relaxation. I feel healthy. I feel strong. I love yoga and yoga teaches me how to love myself.

In June 2011 I completed my Level 1 Baron Baptiste Power Yoga Training and completed Level 2 in 2012. In 2013 I attended a weekend TAP program for Assisting and earned a certificate in teaching kids yoga. In 2014 I completed Baptiste’s Art of Assisting program.

In 2015 Lululemon Athletica named me their Alderwood Ambassador. This is a huge honor for me as it allows me to get more involved in my community and touch more lives through the practice and discipline of yoga!

In July 2015 I became a 200 hour Certified Baptiste Yoga Instructor.

Outside the hot room I'm an accountant and a mother of two beautiful children. What a gift to be able to practice yoga with my husband and children. What a life! Namaste~

Mariko Johnston

Mariko is inspired by helping others, learning from others and creating community through the common language of yoga. She loves nothing more than witnessing the evolution of the human spirit once it is discovered and nurtured. She teaches in the hope of sharing the transformative practice of yoga with everyone. She combines her experience and expertise with training, movement and anatomy to create a challenging and safe environment for students to explore their edge. She often encourages her students to surpass their own expectations. Her classes are designed to challenge and strengthen both body and mind.

Mariko completed her RYT 200 at Shakti in 2014 and went on to complete Shakti's Teacher Mentorship Program working with Zak Endicott and Nicole Tsong. In 2016 she completed "Life of a Yogi" 500 hour training, which included training in advanced pranayama and mediation techniques, in New York with her beloved teacher Dharma Mittra. Mariko is also a certified holistic lifestyle coach and personal trainer with specializations in corrective exercise, performance enhancement.

Known as a quiet yet profound practice, yin yoga consists primarily of seated or floor postures with longer holds while focusing on breath work and meditation. During this practice the objective is to relax the muscles, allowing access to the connective tissues of the body. Yin brings balance to the typical yang practice (hatha/power vinyasa). Room is heated to 80°-85°.
